Cupping test is an important test for assessing the ductile properties of metal. In this test, a punching force is applied to the metal sheet of thickness from 0.2mm to 2mm. The force applied on the sample is displayed by the gauge.
Erichsen test
For the Erichsen test a sheet specimen blank is clamped firmly between blank holders which prevents the in-flow (feeding) of sheet volume from under the blank holder into the deformation zone during the test
The ball punch is forced onto the sheet specimen till cracks begin to appear in the bulge dome.
The distance the punch travels is referred to as the Erichsen Drawing Index (IE), which serves as a measure of the formability of the sheet during stretch forming.
